MTM-2
MTM-2 is a simplified synthetic system of measuring manual work which embraces the principles of the base system, MTM-1. It is referred to as a second generation system and is a system that is approved by the International Methods Time Measurement Directorate. It was developed in the mid 1960’s, largely by the efforts of the UK, USA and Swedish National MTM associations.
Uses
It enables establishment of times for manual work and inherently includes good description of the method used. It is therefore a tool which enables reproducibility of method whilst also enabling development of better methods via analysis of the codes used and of the relationship of those codes.
Simplicity
It’s relative simplicity is achieved by statistically combining, averaging and substituting motions that formed the base MTM-1 system in order to arrive at a much reduced number of application codes.
Speed of application
As a guide it requires approximately 100 minutes for 1 minute of work, assuming some repeated sequences within the work cycle.
Application areas
Application areas are wherever manual work is carried out. The methods of statistics employed to derive the time values determines that a minimum work cycle time of approximately 0.6 minutes should be respected in order to achieve the statistical accuracy of the system
Method description
The value of the technique as a methods description tool is high. It describes the manual motion pattern chronologically for each hand.
