SAM
SAM is a synthetic system of measuring manual work based on pre defined sequential activities. It is based on the principles of the MTM2 system. It is referred to as a third generation system and is approved by the International Methods Time Measurement Directorate. It was developed in the mid 1980’s, largely by the efforts of the Swedish National MTM association.
Uses
It enables establishment of times for manual work. Description of the method is inherent in the technique although the detail is slightly compromised by the nature of the technique, compared to MTM1 or MTM2. As with all of the MTM approved systems it is therefore a tool which enables reproducibility of method whilst also enabling development of better methods via analysis of the codes used and of the relationship of those codes.
Simplicity
The basis of the technique is the MTM2 system whilst the principles of Sequential activities make it unique amongst the approved IMD systems.
Speed of application
The principle of Activity sequences make this technique much faster to apply than 1st or 2nd generation systems.
Application areas
The system may be used for all manual work. It includes repetitive activities that make it especially suited to manufacturing work areas.
Accuracy
Is = ± 5% with 95 % confidence limits at cycles non repetitive of 4.3 minutes.
